The FSB in the central Russian city of Yekaterinburg said it “interrupted the illegal activities of a 33-year-old Los Angeles resident with dual Russian-US citizenship related to providing financial support to a foreign state,” Russian state news agencies said, citing the FSB’s statement.
That statement said the unnamed woman was “actively fundraising […] which were later used to purchase tactical medical supplies, equipment, weapons of destruction and ammunition for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.”
RIA Novosti released a video of the FSB, which shows officers hiding their faces under hoods escorting and handcuffing a woman wearing a white jacket with a white cap over her eyes.
The FSB said she acted ” once morest the security of our country” and supported the Ukrainian military while in the United States, Russian news agencies reported.
Treason in Russia is punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
Several US citizens are currently imprisoned in Russia, including The Wall Street Journal journalist Evan Gershkovich, who was arrested in March 2023 on espionage charges that he, his employer and the US government deny.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has said he is ready to negotiate a prisoner swap, in which Russians imprisoned abroad would be released in exchange for US citizens imprisoned in Russia.
