PT Angkasa Pura I Sam Ratulangi Airport was temporarily closed due to the eruption of volcanic ash from Mount Ruang in Tagulandang, Sitaro Islands Regency, North Sulawesi (Sulut), which erupted once more on Tuesday (30/4) at 02.00 WITA.
“Seeing the torrent of volcanic ash that arrived at Sam Ratulangi Airport, in accordance with Notam, our airport is temporarily closed,” said GM Sam Ratulangi Airport, Maya Damayanti, in Manado, Tuesday (30/4).
He said, based on observations, the volcanic ash activity of Mount Ruang and Notam: A1144/24 NOTAMN, in order to maintain the safety and security aspects of operational flights at Sam Ratulangi Airport, was temporarily closed until 12.00 WITA today.
“We are temporarily closing flight activities to and from Manado until noon,” he said.
Sam Ratulangi International Airport is operating following being closed for six days, due to volcanic ash from Mount Ruang which erupted on April 16 2024. The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) announced that the airport will operate starting Monday (22/4).
After subsiding for around 10 days following the first eruption, Ruang Volcano in Sitaro Islands Regency erupted once more on Tuesday (30/4) at 02.00 WITA. (Ant/Z-1)
