Union centers welcome the increase in the minimum wage in public employment by 1,000 dirhams

The union centers unanimously agreed on the importance of the agreement they signed, today, Monday, April 29, 2024, with the government regarding a general increase in the wages of workers in the public sector.

The various central centers stressed that they were keen to extract “a general increase in wages for public administrations, whether in the public service sector, local groups, or public institutions, as well as in the private sector.”

In this regard, the Secretary-General of the Moroccan Labor Union, Melody Moukhareq, said in a statement to the press that today’s agreement came following a series of consultations and negotiations that began last March 25, stressing that raising the minimum wage in public employment by 1,000 dirhams represents “a very important step.” For this category.

Regarding the reduction of income tax for all employees and workers with a monthly effect of up to 400 dirhams for middle-income groups, the union official recorded that this agreement is considered “a source of pride for the workers and a fiscal fairness to them.”

As for the General Secretary of the General Union of Workers in Morocco, Al-Naam Mayara, he said, in a similar statement, “Today, we in the General Union of Workers in Morocco are very satisfied with this historic agreement, first and foremost, as it is an agreement that establishes a real and effective institutionalization of social dialogue.”

Mr. Mayara highlighted that this agreement would contribute to achieving social peace and economic and social development, which is a desired goal based on opening the way for new job opportunities, as well as opening the way for investments that might also be attractive to job opportunities.

For his part, the Deputy Secretary General of the Democratic Confederation of Labor, Khaled Al-Alami Al-Huwayr, said that the agreement signed today between the government and the union centers is “an implementation of an essential part of the government’s obligations.”

Al-Sayed Al-Alami explained that government obligations also include “improving income, especially the general increase in wages at the public sector level, in addition to raising the minimum wage for the private sector and the agricultural sector.”
