VATICAN CITY (EFE).— Pope Francis affirmed yesterday that in the face of “the dangerous global conflict in pieces, which we cannot attend inertly” a “diplomacy of culture” is needed, when receiving the members of the Pontifical Committee of Sciences Historical.
The Pope spoke to them regarding the urgency of a “diplomacy of culture”, fueled “by the encounter and collaboration between researchers of all cultures and religions and by dialogue between the Church and the world, always respectful of the truth.”

In his speech, the Pope warned of the need for listening “free of all ideology, because ideologies kill. By meeting and collaborating with researchers from all cultures and religions, (you) can offer a specific contribution to the dialogue between the Church and the contemporary world,” he added.
Francis explained that the Church, “does not belong to any particular culture, but wishes to enliven the heart of each culture with the meek and courageous testimony of the Gospel, to build together the civilization of encounter.”
He added that the Church opposes “the incivility of confrontation,” fueled by the “temptations of individualistic self-referentiality” and the “ideological affirmation of one’s own point of view.”
