DAMAR Bagus Permadi is willing to leave his job to realize his dream in the field of fine arts, especially in terms of making ceramics which focuses on products tablewear such as cups, glasses, plates, bowls, and others by establishing Damdam Ceramic Studio.
Using the knowledge he gained as a fine arts student at the Jakarta Arts Institute (IKJ), Damar said that his desire to start a business in the ceramics sector was full of challenges.
“I was a bit disappointed with the major I took because I was trying to work in my field of ceramics, but what I needed was design. Even though I shaped the object. On other campuses, maybe product design. So when I applied for a job in my field, there weren’t any. “Well, from there I tried a lot of work and I set aside for a moment regarding ceramics,” he said to Media Indonesia, Saturday (27/4).
Furthermore, the thing that made him change gears and return to fine arts was the figure of Ady Pustaka. Ady is said to be Damar’s mentor and has worked in the ceramics field for 20 years.
“He can live with a wife and children. I see that success is consistent in that field and does not mean you have to be rich. “From there I decided to change direction even though previously I had worked as a manager in the food franchise sector and had subordinates, but I decided to create a studio,” he said.
At first Damar had to stay at his friend’s studio to make the ceramic products he produced. Over time, in 2018, he decided to create his own studio.

Since then he has regularly attended many event craft organized by various parties. Until finally he was able to name Damdam Ceramic Studio at the Inacraft 2023 event.
“Finally following that I was offered to take part in the New York Now event. At that time I registered and it was curated directly by Jennifer Isaacson from America. “He said my product is very suitable for the American market,” said Damar.
During this event, he met many parties including BRI. After returning from there, Damar was offered to take part in the BRILLIANTPRENEUR 2023 event and received a special place as a New York Now alumni.

“BRILLIANTPRENEUR is a really good event, sales are also really good. “Even following joining BRILLIANTPRENEUR, Ria Miranda still orders my products,” he said.
He also explained that in that event, he had done business matching with several investors such as from Saudi Arabia and India.
Previously, BRI President Director Sunarso explained that the BRILIANPRENEUR 2023 program was one of the company’s concrete steps as a financial institution that is also responsible for advancing Indonesian MSMEs.

“BRI sees a big opportunity for Indonesian products to enter the global market. The work of the nation’s children is considered to have quality that can compete with products from other countries,” said Sunarso.
Sunarso also detailed the value of the agreement through business matching in the BRILLIANTPRENEUR event continues to increase. In 2019 it was US$33.5 million, increased in 2020 to US$57.5 million and in 2021 it increased once more to US$72.1 million.
In 2021 it will be very interesting because BRILLIANTPRENEUR will be held virtually due to the pandemic. Then in 2022 the value will reach US$76.7 million. (D-2)
