PTI’s big announcement regarding Senate election

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced not to participate in the Senate elections from Sindh.

Talking to the media in Karachi, Tehreek-e-Insaf Sindh leader Haleem Adil Sheikh said that the Senate election is being won by stealth.

He said that 6 candidates of PTI from Sindh were in the field in the Senate elections, but now they are not participating in the elections.

The PTI leader said that the assembly currently does not have form forty-five members, is sure of February 8 but not sure of February 9.

It should be noted that the Election Commission has completed all the arrangements for holding the Senate elections and on April 2, there will be a contest between 59 candidates on 28 seats.

According to the statement issued by the Election Commission, the Commission issued the notification of the election program for holding elections on 48 vacant seats of the Senate on March 14, 2024. The election for non-Muslim seats is to be held on April 2, 2024.

A total of 147 candidates submitted nomination papers for this election. The returning officers have released the final list of candidates according to which 18 candidates have been elected unopposed, including 7 general seats of Punjab, 7 general seats of Balochistan, 2 women and 2 technocrat/ulama seats. On April 2, 2024, elections will be held for 30 seats in the Senate.

One general, one technocrat in the federal capital Islamabad, 2 women, 2 technocrats/ulama, one non-Muslim from Punjab, 7 generals from Sindh, 2 women, 2 technocrats/ulama, one non-Muslim, while 7 generals from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. 2 women and 2 technocrat seats are included and 59 candidates are contesting.

The Election Commission has completed all the arrangements for holding the Senate elections while the work of printing the ballot papers and sending the election materials to the rating officers has also been completed.
