“May 1st, Workers’ Day. This year too we have decided to celebrate this important date in the only way we know, that is, by giving concrete answers to Italians and in particular to those Italians who roll up their sleeves every day and with their work contributes to the wealth of our nation”. Thus Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in a video published on her social channels on the occasion of Labor Day.

“On May 1st a year ago, if you remember, we had gathered the Council of Ministers – recalls the Prime Minister – and we had approved a very detailed decree, with various measures in favor of workers, the most important of which was the cut in taxes on work for incomes of up to 35 thousand euros. Thanks to that cut, workers received up to 100 euros more per month in their paychecks, a measure that we then confirmed for the whole of 2024 with the budget law”, explains the prime minister.

“We made this choice to defend the purchasing power of workers, in particular those with the lowest incomes at a time of high inflation. And with the same objective, in this year and a half of government, we have several other measures: l the consolidation of the first two Irpef brackets, which lowers taxes for everyone, even if we then canceled the benefit for the highest incomes; the elimination of up to 3 thousand euros per year in the contributions paid by employed mothers with at least two children; cutting taxes on productivity bonuses up to 3 thousand euros, raising the tax exemption threshold for the fringe benefit, i.e. the voluntary contribution that the employer can give to the worker with a favorable eye on workers who have dependent children. But also the increase in minimum pensions, the full indexation of the lowest pensions, everything was done with a view to redistributing wealth. Even in view of this May 1st we have chosen to continue in this direction”, concludes Meloni.
