The Secretary-General of the United Nations calls for an independent investigation into Gaza’s mass graves and warns of the danger of the attack on Rafah

Gaza – United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres called on Tuesday for the need to conduct a comprehensive and independent investigation into the mass graves found in the Gaza Strip.

In a press statement, Guterres stressed “the need to allow independent international investigators immediate access to the sites to determine the precise circumstances in which Palestinians lost their lives and were buried or reburied.”

He added that the war on the Gaza Strip destroyed its health system, noting that “some hospitals now resemble cemeteries.”

The Secretary-General of the United Nations also warned that the attack on Rafah would have a devastating impact on the Palestinians in Gaza and have serious repercussions on the region.

“We must do everything in our power to avoid a completely preventable man-made famine,” he said, stressing that convoys, humanitarian facilities, individuals and people in need should not be targeted.

He also called on the Israeli government to accelerate the introduction of aid into Gaza and provide security for the accompanying crews, including UNRWA.

Guterres explained that the main obstacle to the distribution of aid throughout Gaza is the lack of security for aid workers and civilians.

The Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs in the Gaza Strip revealed that the Israeli army had committed “atrocities the likes of which history has not witnessed” in the Strip since October 7.

It confirmed in a statement that the Israeli army “mutilized the bodies of hundreds following killing them in brutal, barbaric ways, such as cutting off heads and limbs, cutting open stomachs, stripping off clothes, keeping the martyrs naked, and firing large quantities of bullets at the corpses.”

Last Wednesday, the European Union called for an independent investigation into reports of the discovery of mass graves in two hospitals in the Gaza Strip that were destroyed by Israeli forces.
