Emmen ends a great weekend with a win

We did excellent business in the battle for the play-offs by winning 3-0 at home once morest direct competitor Helmond Sport. As a result, FC Emmen is now virtually in a position that entitles them to the play-offs. This made it a delicious dessert on a wonderful weekend in Emmen.

After Vicente Besuijen came across the keeper early on following a nice ball from Lucas Bernadou, the second Drenthe danger of the evening did produce a goal. Bradly van Hoeven went down in the opposing penalty area and referee Marc Nagtegaal pointed to the spot. The penalty was used by Piotr Parzyszek and it was 1-0 early on at De Oude Meerdijk. On the other hand, Eric Oelschlägel then had to make a save on a bet by Anthony van den Hurk, who had to fight quite a few duels with Emmen defender Dennis Vos.

Unfortunately, following that promising opening phase, there was less excitement. After Ben Scholte left the field injured following half an hour of play, the match slowly started once more. Top scorer Martijn Kaars shot a free kick over from a dangerous spot and on behalf of the Emmen team, Van Hoeven had a great opportunity following a wonderful sliding from Jorrit Smeets. The Almere City mercenary unfortunately shot wide. In injury time, Besuijen was close to making it 2-0 following a careful pass from Bernadou, but he was unable to put the ball into the goal. Emmen regularly looked for space behind the Helmond defense.

Emmen increases the lead
It was also clear following the break that there was a lot at stake. Both teams wanted to move forward but were also afraid to take a lot of risks. With fresh blood in the team, the Emmen team managed to find the net once more. Patrick Brouwer was on the field for barely a minute and scored the liberating 2-0. At first he was dangerous with a good dribble, a few seconds later he was the end station of a great cross from Jeff Hardeveld’s back line. Brouwer netted the ball well from close range, causing the ‘Our Cat and Neighbor’s Tomcat’ to be heard from the stands.

A few minutes later it was scored once more and the match was decided. The Drenthe captured the ball in the opponent’s half and Besuijen immediately went deep. This was seen by Jorrit Smeets, who did not hesitate and immediately gave a tailor-made through ball. Besuijen promoted that through ball into a goal by hitting goalkeeper Wouter van der Steen face to face in the left corner: 3-0.

In the final phase there was the debut of youth player Jorn Hekkert. The nineteen-year-old attacker made an eager impression and with the support of the crowd at De Oude Meerdijk, he was also involved in a number of dangerous attacks. Brouwer came closest to the fourth Emmer goal, when he headed over from a cross from Joey Konings.

The victory means we climb to ninth place, which entitles us to the play-offs. Two very important games to go, starting once morest FC Den Bosch next Friday. Click here for ticket info!
