At least five people were injured near Hainault tube station in north-east London by a man wielding a katana, the traditional Japanese sword. According to British media reports, a man has been arrested. According to what was reported by the Metropolitan Police it was not “an act of terrorism”.
The Guardian explains that five people were taken to hospital as a result of the attack. The Metropolitan Police said officers initially responded to a vehicle on private property in Thurlow Gardens. It is unclear what happened next, but the gunman also attacked two police officers. The 36-year-old, whose images are bouncing around on social media, was arrested on the spot and is in custody. The police currently exclude a motive linked to terrorism and the presence of other suspects. The man has a history of mental distress, writes the Guardian.
