21 people died in the traffic accident

21 people were killed and 38 injured as a result of a collision between an oil tanker and a bus in Helmand province of Afghanistan.

According to a foreign news agency, the provincial information department said on social media website X that 21 people were killed and 38 injured as a result of a collision between a tanker, a passenger bus and a motorcycle on Sunday morning.

He said that the accident took place on the Herat-Kandahar highway in Girishk district of Herat province.

Mohammad Qasim Riaz, a spokesman for Helmand’s governor, told AFP that the clash resulted in a fire.

Images shared on social media by the Information Department show charred bodies on the highway and the crushed cabin of the tanker.

Officials say that cleaning crews are removing debris from the scene. Of the injured, 11 were seriously injured while 27 suffered minor injuries.

According to the Department of Information, traffic management officials of Helmand said that the passenger bus was going from Herat city to the capital Kabul when it first collided with a motorcycle on which two people were riding and both of them died.

After hitting the motorcycle, the bus driver lost control and collided with an oil tanker bound for Herat from the southern city of Kandahar, which burst into flames. Three people in the tanker and 16 passengers of the bus died in the accident.

Similarly, another serious accident occurred in December 2022 when a collision between a vehicle and an oil tanker caught fire in Afghanistan’s Saling Pass, killing 31 people and injuring dozens.
