Palm Sunday
This Palm Sunday we celebrate the solemn entry of the Lord Jesus Christ into Jerusalem. Then Jesus, coming from Bethany to Jerusalem, sent two of his Disciples and they brought him a colt. And he sat on it to enter the city. And the people, hearing that Jesus was coming, immediately took palm branches in their hands and went out to meet him.
And some with their clothes, others cutting branches from the trees, paved the way where Jesus would pass. And all together, even the little children, shouted: Hosanna; blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, the king of Israel. Christ enters Jerusalem “on a pole”. He marches and the Israelites greet him with honors as King. He does not pay much attention to honors, but proceeds to the cross and the Resurrection.
Miracle in Cartagena
During the time of the emperor Heraclius and when the patrician Nikitas was exarch of Africa, a strange miracle happened there. In Carthage there lived a certain man, who, when this epidemic fell upon the city, fled from there with his wife. They went to their country house, where they were staying so as not to get sick.
But the envious and murderous devil seduced this man into sin and led him to commit adultery with the wife of the farmer who cultivated his estates. Then he got sick and died. But three hours following he was buried, he began to cry out from the grave and say, “Have mercy on me, have mercy on me.” So when they opened the tomb, they found him alive, but unable to speak.
Holy Nine Martyrs in Cyzicus
The Holy Nine Martyrs of Cyzicus, i.e. Theognis, Rufus, Antipater, Theostychos, Artemas, Magnos, Theodolos, Thaumasios and Philemons came from different places. But they were all arrested together in Kyzikos during the period of persecution.
When they were brought before the local ruler they displayed admirable bravery and defiantly and courageously defended their faith. for this reason and to bend their strength they were thrown into prison. There without water and bread they prayed and glorified their Lord who deserved them to suffer for Him and one gave courage to the other.
Saint Memnon the Wonderworker
Saint Memnon from a young age abandoned the world and dedicated himself to God. He became a monk and with his ascetic struggles he subdued the flesh to the spirit. The divine grace rewarded the virtue of Saint Memnon and entitled him to perform miracles. It once happened that swarms of locusts overran the fields of the villagers. They, without being able to do anything, wept and watched this destructive plague.
Saint Memnon pitied those family heads and felt their despair. So he prayed fervently to God and succeeded in ridding the place of the destructive swarms. And whenever the agricultural populations of his region fell into great distress, Memnon would help them from the finances of the monastery, of which he also became abbot.
