FC Bayern confirms “good talks” with Rangnick

Sports director Max Eberl said on Tuesday evening that they were working “quietly in the background” to sign a successor to coach Thomas Tuchel. “We are in good discussions with Ralf, but now we have to wait a few days to see whether it ultimately turns out that way,” said President Herbert Hainer to Sky.

Eberl explained that he did not expect a decision before the semi-final second leg of the Champions League once morest Real Madrid (first leg 2-2) on Wednesday next week. Planning security will be achieved internally. Hainer said: “We’ll have to see when we give the final go-ahead. But I think it won’t be too long before we know which direction things are going.” If Bayern didn’t want to make an announcement before the first leg, CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said: “After so much talk over the last two or three weeks, it no longer matters.”

After the rejections of Xabi Alonso (Leverkusen) and Julian Nagelsmann (DFB national coach), 65-year-old Rangnick is the Munich team’s current preferred candidate. Bayern have made him an offer, which he is currently examining. According to a report in “Bild”, Rangnick has already given those responsible at Säbener Straße a general willingness to come to Munich in the summer. Further discussions are scheduled for Wednesday. The details of the transfer also need to be clarified. Rangnick has a contract with the ÖFB until 2026, and in the coming weeks the focus should be on preparing for the European Football Championship in Germany and this itself.

Last week, Rangnick confirmed contact with the German football record champions in an interview with the Internet portal “90minuten.at”. He said in the conversation that his focus was on the national team and not on a coaching job in Bavaria, but also said: “At the moment when Bayern would say: We want you. And then I have to ask myself: Do I even want that ?” This contract offer is now obviously available.
