FOLLOWING the announcement of the release of the album Amama, which will be released on May 17, the band from New York, Crumb, has released a new single entitled The Bug, which is also an excerpt from their new album.
Talking regarding the latest single, Crumb vocalist Lila Ramani revealed, “The Bug is a song that has existed in our world since Crumb was first formed, the pre-Jinx era. The origin of this song came from a motel in Nebraska, at the time We were still very new to this touring thing, and when we woke up we found a lot of insect bites. Feeling trapped and not being able to sleep at all, I decided to wander around the motel singing which eventually became the part outro of a song.
“Several years later, we finally decided to record this song, and now the song has found a deeper meaning, namely the meaning of the bug itself does not have to be in the form of an insect, but the bug represents a friend, lover, or an uneasy feeling that can we found it at night,” he continued.
The Amama album is Crumb’s most liberating and touching project. This album combines many abstract and poetic lyrics as they show their personal, reflective side.

This album also became the momentum for Crumb to experiment with various sounds. Through the album Amamam, Crumb shows their most lively and dynamic form, with various sound explorations and recording techniques, starting from using glitchy vocal effects, maximizing cellphones for some of their recordings, using blip signals, performing saxophone solos using the mouth, samples drums, to using piano strings covered in Silly Putty toys.
Released on May 17, via Crumbs Records, this album also features the title track Amama, a song dedicated to Lila Ramani’s Malaysian-Indian grandmother.
The voice of the grandmother speaking Malayli can be heard throughout the song. This dedication was also accompanied by a video clip produced by Abraham El Makawy.

The music video combines videos of Lila growing up, archival videos of the band, and also visuals from 702 frames presented by Crumb listeners.
Combining psychedelic, pop, jazz and rock genres, it plays a role in strengthening Crumb’s position as a band with unique characteristics.
Crumb’s upcoming album was produced with Johnscott Sanford and Jonathan Rado in Los Angeles and is a statement of Crumb’s struggle and journey in searching for the meaning of life, building connections with other people, and seeking clarity in a nomadic life that sometimes has various kinds of upheavals.

Amama’s single follows their journey from Crumb and Locket’s successful self-titled EP, 2019’s Jinx, and 2021’s Ice Melt, which Rolling Stone called “A compelling journey into the metaphysical and bringing us back to Earth.”
In order to welcome their latest album, this New York City based band is also preparing a tour which is scheduled to visit 30 cities in the United States (US) in the middle of this year.
With monthly listeners reaching 2 million, now Indonesia and Thailand have entered the list of 20 countries that listen to Crumb the most globally. (RO/Z-1)
