Depardieu had previously been questioned in police custody regarding allegations from two women who accused the actor of assaults during filming. The actor has denied the allegations once morest him, his lawyer said in the followingnoon.
Regarding the allegations: A set designer had accused the actor of sexually harassing her in 2021 while filming the film “Les volets verts” by director Jean Becker. Depardieu made numerous offensive comments, she told Medipart magazine. He also “brutally grabbed” her and groped her “at the waist, stomach and up to her breasts”. The actor’s bodyguards finally stopped Depardieu. “We had to listen to his bullshit from morning to night,” actress Anouk Grimberg, who starred in the film, recently told AFP. “When producers hire Depardieu, they know he is an aggressor,” she added.
The other ad comes from a woman who wishes to remain anonymous. She was 24 years old when, according to her, Depardieu harassed her with “obscene comments” and groped her while filming.
For years, women have been coming forward to accuse Depardieu (“Cyrano of Bergerac”, “Asterix and Obelix”) of sexual violence; around 20 women have now accused the actor of assault and harassment in the media or before the judiciary. In 2018, actress Charlotte Arnould sued him.
This case has been under investigation for rape since 2020. Depardieu completely denies the allegations. In a letter published in the newspaper “Le Figaro” in the fall, he describes himself as the victim of a “media lynching.” French President Emmanuel Macron publicly supported the actor several times and referred to the presumption of innocence.
The award-winning actor, who appeared in more than 200 films, also caused horror with statements in a television report broadcast in December regarding his trip to North Korea in 2018. In it he repeatedly makes misogynistic and questionable comments, for example calling women “big sluts”. The then Minister of Culture, Rima Abdul-Malak, initiated an investigation into whether Depardieu should be stripped of his Legion of Honor. That ultimately didn’t happen. The actor received France’s highest award in 1996. Depardieu lost the National Order of Quebec and his title as an honorary citizen of the Belgian community of Estaimpuis. The Paris wax museum had his figure removed.
