On the morning of April 8, following 4 hours of driving, Huang Fu’s father and older brother arrived from Fuzhou, Jiangxi, China to Jinhua No. 2 Hospital, Zhejiang to meet Huang Fu following 22 years of separation. The old father gently held his son’s hand, looked closely at every facial feature, heard his son call out “Dad” and nodded and said: “That’s it! Growing up, many things have changed, but they are still very similar to when they were children!
After 22 years apart, Huang Fu finally found his family.
Huang Fu is a homeless person who has been received and helped by the Social Protection Center of Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province since January 26, 2016. The center’s staff suspected this man had a mental disorder when he did not know his name or where his house was. The name Huang Fu was also temporarily given to him by the center and then he was sent to a medical facility for treatment.
Over the years, the center has made efforts to find relatives for Huang Fu through many different channels. After many months of hard work, their efforts paid off. Last March, the center received good news when the district police initially determined that Huang Fu may come from Xuwan town, Jinxi district, Fuzhou city, Jiangxi province.
On March 29, the Jinxi District Social Protection Center identified Huang Fu as a person who went missing in Xuwan in 2002. One day following contacting Huang Fu’s family, his younger brother, who was working in Zhejiang, immediately immediately ran to Kim Hoa. After further verification and comparison of information, the two parties were determined to be related by blood.
“After receiving the call, I rushed from Wenzhou to Jinhua. At first I mightn’t believe it. After all, my family had not heard from him for more than 20 years.
Since childhood, he was not very smart. Every day, my father taught him to memorize his name, his parents’ name, his sister’s name and my name. When I met you once more, I realized you had forgotten everything.”Huang Fu’s younger brother was overjoyed to see his long-lost brother once more.
The father carefully dressed his son in new clothes on the day they met once more.
Speaking of future plans, Huang Fu’s younger brother wanted to take his older brother back to his hometown first to see if he might recall his childhood memories, wanting him to slowly adapt to the new environment. In the past, because of conflicts with his family, he left home. His family searched for him everywhere but to no avail.
On the reunion day, the father dressed his son who had been separated for many years in new clothes. He choked up and looked at his child speechless, his hands comforting and hugging him as if he wanted to heal the wound in his heart following 22 years of absence.
