Costanera Sur obtains international certification for compliance with socio-environmental standards

Asunción, IP Agency.- The Costanera Sur work received international certification for compliance with the Performance Standards on Environmental and Social Sustainability of the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

Compliance with the regulations is a requirement requested by the entities that finance the project, which has the Itaú Paraguay bank as the main structurer with financing from the KFW and Med Life banks.

This achievement demonstrates the commitment that the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) has in the execution of its works in compliance with the standards of environmental, social care, as well as occupational health and safety, for the benefit of the population. .

The axes of: Evaluation and Management of Environmental and Social Risks and Impacts, Labor and Working Conditions, Efficiency in the Use of Resources and Pollution Prevention, Health and Safety of Communities, Land Acquisition and Involuntary Resettlement, Conservation were audited. of Biodiversity and Sustainable Management of Living Natural Resources, Indigenous Peoples and Cultural Heritage.

About the work

The Costanera Sur avenue – which is in its final stage – is part of a comprehensive connectivity project promoted by the National Government to facilitate vehicular entry to the center of Asunción and through the Costanera Norte to other parts of the country and the region through the Héroes del Chaco bridge, which is already enabled.

Its modern design includes large spaces for social recreation with bike paths and wide sidewalks along the entire stretch, parking, inclusive access, parks and an open-air amphitheater.

The route of the road is 8.1 kilometers long at non-flood level, along the Bañado Sur, from Avda. Colón to Cerro Lambaré. All this taking into account urban development, social cohesion and appreciation of the area.

It is an undertaking that is carried out under the modality of Law 5,074/13, also known as “Turnkey”, through the Southern Consortium made up of Ingeniería de Topografía y Caminos SA (T & C), which is responsible for its execution.
