Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has announced a review of relations with the United States following Washington vetoed Palestine’s request for full UN membership.
Speaking to the official Palestinian news agency “Wafa”, Mahmoud Abbas said that the “Palestinian leadership will review bilateral relations with the United States to ensure the protection of the interests, causes and rights of its people”.
According to Wafa, this statement of the Palestinian president came following the United States used its veto power in the United Nations Security Council.
Mahmoud Abbas said that ‘Palestinian leadership will develop a new strategy to protect independent national decisions and follow the Palestinian agenda instead of the American vision or regional agenda’.
It should be remembered that the United States has vetoed the resolution presented to Palestine as a full member of the United Nations as a state in the Security Council.
According to Arab News, 12 out of 15 members supported the resolution on behalf of Algeria, while Great Britain and Switzerland were absent during the voting in the Security Council.
