Media sources specialized in the field of sports reported that the Competitions Committee of the Confederation of African Football had decided to cancel the match between USM Algiers and RS Berkane, which was scheduled for this evening, Sunday, April 21, 2024, at the July 5 stadium.
The same sources reported that the match’s refereeing crew committee was notified of the decision to cancel the match through the match observer, due to the Algerian Football Association’s non-compliance with the decisions of the committee and the appeals committee regarding the release of the Nahdet Berkane team shirts.
Due to the intransigence of the Algerian authorities in this matter, the CAF Competitions Committee decided to cancel the match, holding an emergency meeting to consider the fate of the match, while ruling out imposing sanctions on USM Algeria.
The Berkane Renaissance mission is expected to return to the city of Oujda this Sunday evening via a direct flight via the Spanish airline “Albastar.”
It is noteworthy that the RS Berkane team refused to play its match with USM Algiers in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup semi-final, due to the use of alternative shirts prepared by the Algerian Football Federation, stressing the importance of wearing the official shirt that bears the full map of the Kingdom of Morocco.
The sources indicated that the RS Berkane team attended the technical meeting before the match without the team shirts that it had brought to Algeria.
