This novel, according to the publisher, represents the launch of a new series titled “Novella – The Short Novel”, with the aim of enriching the Arab literary scene with short novels modeled on leading international models, such as “The Season of Migration to the North.” “The Passage”; “Animal Farm,” “The Old Man and the Sea” and others.
His communication stated:
The novel, like most of the novels of the writer Ahjiyouj, belongs to a postmodern literature characterized by experimentation and immersion in unknown narrative worlds, something that Arab critics have already praised regarding previous novels by the writer, like the testimony of the critic Antoine. Abu Zeid: “What the writer Ahjiyouj proposes, or his experience in the construction of the Arabic novel, is to introduce elements which are not of the nature of narration, nor of one of the familiar methods of storytelling. […]”.
In this novel, readers embark on a confusing intellectual journey through the mysteries of memory and the paradoxes of destiny. The clues appear intentionally ambiguous, motivating readers to decipher the secrets hidden in Ahjuj’s words. Through his woven narrative, Ahjouj takes complex paths through the worlds of memory, blending reality and imagination, inviting readers to question the very nature of truth.
Each chapter of “The Cave of the Tablets” presents a series of narrative moments, repeated in a perpetual movement of eternal recurrence, where the characters and events change slightly with each story. Through this repetition, reading is transformed into a transformative experience that erases the boundaries between writer and reader, during which the reader also becomes the writer of a text open to interpretations.
Published by the writer Muhammad Saeed Ahjiyouj: The novel “Kafka in Tangier” (first edition 2019), the novel “The Puzzle of Edmond Omran El Maleh” (Beirut, 2020), the novel “The Night of Tangier” (The Cairo, 2022), the novel “The Labyrinth of Illusions” (Beirut, 2023).
