“The history of the festival began eight years ago. At that time, I might not even think – sorry for the arrogance – that it would become such a significant festival. The best are coming. This shows that the festival is becoming well-known and is still an ambitious, young festival, said Tomas Juočys, the manager of the Klaipėda Drama Theater.
At the same time, this year’s festival is the biggest and most expensive. Its budget will reach regarding 260 thousand. euros. At the same time, the manager noted that the festival did not become more expensive for the spectators – they will not pay more for the tickets.
This year, theATRIUM audience will see for the first time the Israeli Gesher Theater performance “Anna Karenina”, which was staged last year by director Rim Tumin. This is the last performance of the maestro. In March of this year, the director’s life ended.
“Anna Karenina” will be shown twice in Klaipėda. The choreography for this performance was created by Anželika Cholina. There are more Lithuanians in the creative group. Costumes were created by Olga Filatova, music by Giedrius Puskunigis, scenography by Adomas Jacovskis.
The organizers of the festival program do not hide it – they had already put the final touches when they unexpectedly saw this performance. He appeared in the program almost at the last moment. However, the audience’s reaction and the way tickets are bought show that R. Tumin’s “Anna Karenina” will become a highlight. This performance will be shown to the audience even twice.
“We try to make every festival special and unique. I am very happy that we have at least two world-renowned names in the program – Romeo Castellucci and Mariano Pensotti and, of course, the eternal rest Rimas Tuminas”, said Gintaras Grajauskas, the artistic director of the festival.
At the same time, he singled out the Liepoja theater performance “The Greeks”, directed by Elmar Senkov. “It’s one of my favorites,” he added.
R. Castellucci will present a unique performance “BROS” in Klaipėda. This work is unique in that it stars over 20 men who are…not actors. They dress up as police officers and only receive instructions through headphones on stage regarding what they will have to do. What happens on stage is shocking.
Ticket prices for showcase performances of Lithuanian theater without discount are 18-20 EUR, and for performances of the international program – 18-22 EUR.
“It will be an interesting experience both for us, the organizers, and for the spectators. It would be a mistake to miss this performance,” intrigued international program coordinator Karolina Sadlauskaitė.
“La Obra” will come to Klaipėda from Argentina, having previously visited Milan and Berlin.
It’s a play, regarding… a play. A Jewish survivor of the Holocaust comes to Argentina, where he creates a scenography in the field for a play regarding what his native home in Poland was like. The story shocked the Argentinians, now it will be possible to see it in Lithuania as well.
The showcase program of the Lithuanian theater includes 10 Lithuanian performances. Among them is the play “Dog and Monkey” by Oskar Korshunov. Tickets for this performance are already sold out.
The Lithuanian National Drama Theater brings “Fossilia”, the Old Theater of Vilnius – “Caligula”.
The showcase of the Lithuanian theater will begin with the premiere of the festival’s hosts – Dmitry Krymov’s “Requiem”, already the second production created by this director in Klaipėda. At the moment, the director is working intensively in Klaipėda.
According to the organizers of the festival, this is a unique opportunity to see a rich program in just one week in the port city.
During the entire festival – from May 15 to June 12 – the video and sound installation “Regykla” by Adam Zubė, which tells regarding forest fires in the Curonian Spit, will be open in the Chamber Hall of the theater. The light and sound installation will be available for viewing one hour before and following the performance.
