Palestine – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called on donor countries yesterday, Thursday, to support the new Palestinian government to carry out its tasks in the West Bank, Gaza, and Jerusalem.
The official Palestinian News Agency, citing Abbas, said, “The new Palestinian government will carry out its duties in the West Bank, Gaza, and Jerusalem, carry out humanitarian relief efforts, carry out the necessary reforms, and achieve financial and economic stability.”
The agency added that this came during a phone call between Abbas and the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb.
The agency added that the government’s implementation of its duties “requires pressure on the Israeli government to release the Palestinian funds it has withheld and the necessity of holding an international donor conference to mobilize financial support to support the budget of the new Palestinian government and support its programs.”
Abbas appointed economist Muhammad Mustafa as head of the new Palestinian government, which includes members of technocrats, succeeding the previous government headed by Muhammad Shtayyeh, a member of the Central Committee of the Fatah movement.
Abbas said during the phone call, “The State of Palestine will continue its efforts to obtain full membership in the United Nations, go to the General Assembly, and continue to seek more recognition of the State of Palestine.”
A few days ago, the United States of America prevented the Palestinians from obtaining full membership in the United Nations following using the right of veto during a Security Council session.
