This bronze relic, found by two local amateur archaeologists, dates back to around 200 years ago. As reported by the local media, they donated the find to the Museum of Vestsjælland.
Although the diameter of this object is less than three centimeters, according to archaeologist Freerk Oldenburger, it has a great historical significance, because finds related to Alexander the Great are extremely rare in Scandinavia.
The holder is made of cast bronze, which, according to the archeologist, is the alloy used to make Roman bronze statuettes.
The man’s face depicted in the holder is associated with Alexander the Great, because, according to F. Oldenburger, it has his characteristic features – wavy hair and ram’s horns.
Moreover, this image is almost identical to another object discovered seven decades ago in Denmark with a portrait of a man.
In 1950, a huge historical treasure was discovered in the Illerup Adal bog near Skanderborg – almost 16 thousand. objects, including swords, bows, arrows and shields, believed to have been offered to the gods following a great battle around 200 AD.
A gilded silver decoration was found on one of the shields – a disc with a similar face of Alexander the Great.
