Drinking water and sewage works will benefit more than 290,000 inhabitants of Asunción and Mariano R. Alonso

Asunción, IP Agency.- The Drinking Water and Sanitary Sewage Program for the Metropolitan Area of ​​Asunción – Mariano Roque Alonso Basin is on track and plans to benefit more than 290,000 inhabitants of Mariano Roque Alonso and a part of the cities of Asunción and Luque.

The project promoted by the Ministry of Public Works, through its Directorate of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DAPSAN), with an investment of USD 160,000,000, financed by the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF).

The general objective of the project is to expand the coverage of sewage networks, increase wastewater treatment and optimize the drinking water supply system in the cities of Mariano Roque Alonso, Luque and northern Asunción, in order to improve the conditions of health of its inhabitants, as well as contributing to preserving the quality of the water resources of the Paraguay River

The operation and maintenance of the system once the works are completed will be the responsibility of the Empresa de Servicios de Sanitarios del Paraguay SA (ESSAP SA), as the service provider.

The works include a sanitary sewage network (sewer network) of more than 447 km, 10 pumping stations and a Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP).

In the future, the WWTP will also be able to receive effluents from part of the city of Luque.

CAF mission verifies construction site

A mission from the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) continues this Thursday the visit to areas where the works and closure activities will be carried out.

Likewise, the day before they reviewed the status of execution of the operation of the “Drinking Water and Sanitation Program of the Metropolitan Area of ​​Asunción – Lambaré Basin.”

The first work session took place at the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), with the participation of representatives from CAF, MOPC/DAPSAN and MEF.

On the occasion, a general presentation of the project was made, covering the context, objectives, implementation, financial aspects and planned schedule.

In the second session, the focus was on the environmental aspect, analyzing technical aspects, compliance with legal regulations, sustainability, risk management and synergy with other organizations. Finally, issues related to impact measurement and required support mechanisms were addressed, reports the Ministry of Public Works and Communications.
