In the bench of the Three-member Misdemeanor Court of Lamia, the well-known Baripoinite Alket Rizai (prisoner in Domokos Prisons) was found accused with 13 other inmates (2 Greeks and 11 foreigners) for the acts of moral turpitude in the supply of a mobile phone in prison and the possession of weapons in prison together .
These are the findings of a surprise police investigation that took place on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, in the “VIP” cells of Domokos Detention Center, among them Alket Rizai. At that time, improvised skewers, screwdrivers, knives, five mobile phones, but also a smartwatch with their chargers had been found.
According to lamiareport.gr, Rizai claimed in his apology that he never had in his possession the mobile phones and the four skewers found on the right side of the cell, emphasizing that he might not know what his co-accused was hiding. His defense was based on this by Lawyer Akis Nousa who stated to LamiaReport that “from the evidentiary process it appeared that my client had nothing to do with the findings of the January 2023 investigation”.
Four other defendants, including a Greek, were similarly found not guilty. Lawyer Argyro Karaferi was one of the four who were acquitted, testifying that her client had nothing to do with what was found in the investigation.
On the contrary, two of the defendants – one Greek – were found guilty and sentenced to two years in prison and three months, for possession of weapons and mobile phones. Two more people were also sentenced to two years in prison for gun possession.
Finally, for three of the defendants, the case file was separated and they will be tried for the same acts on a new date.
