AS a stand-up comedian, Raditya Dika admits that his interest in comedy was to attract the attention of his friends when he was in elementary school. The reason is, at that time he had no friends.

“Comedy was my way of surviving at school at first. Because I’m short, right? In the past, no one wanted to be my friend because I was little and liked to be teased. Moreover, you wear glasses,” he said on the YouTube Malaka Project.

Furthermore, because he had no friends, Radit ended up spending more time reading books. One of the books he likes is Lupus by Hilman Hariwijaya.

The book is said to have been of particular interest to him, because there were many funny sentences which ultimately made him learn to do comedy.

“Because I didn’t have any friends, I liked reading books first, so I often read the book Lupus by the late Hilman Hariwijaya. Then when I read it, I wondered why I was laughing. “So I underlined it (the funny part) and I tried to write it like that,” said Radit.

“For example, Lupus looks like Brad Pitt from afar, but from up close it looks like flip-flops. I kept laughing. Maybe it’s because he likened Lupus to flip-flops, so what can I do like me? I started using it on myself or talking to people. “Sometimes I read anecdote books,” he continued.

The man who is currently 39 years old added that studying comedy for him was aimed at winning people’s hearts.

While he was studying comedy, according to him there were two important things that people should pay attention to.

“I learned two important things, namely how to make people laugh which are related to comedy techniques. There is another aspect that many people don’t realize is why people laugh. “That has to do with philosophy and philosophy,” said Radit.

“I studied both independently. But at the beginning I learned how to do comedy by reconstructing jokes that I liked. When I was in 4th grade, I finally made a book regarding my comedy, you know. It’s like there are guesses and so on. “His interest (in comedy) started in elementary school,” he continued.

Even though he has studied comedy and is also a famous stand-up comedian, Radit emphasizes that he doesn’t think he’s funny at all.

This is what sometimes causes disappointment for some people when they meet him, because there is an expectation that Radit is a funny person.

“I’m not funny at all. Everyday life is just normal. That’s why a lot of people might be annoyed with me because they think I’m going to make them laugh. Even though it’s not. I’ve always been very quiet and serious. “So people’s expectations are broken because people see it,” added Radit.

He gave the example of an incident when friends of Anisa Azizah, his wife, came to his house, Radit often spent time alone playing games rather than joining in with them.

Until one day, his wife reprimanded Radit and asked him to join in socializing with his friends when they stopped by the house.

“Finally, Anisa said, if my friends come downstairs, at least hang out and meet them. Because his friends asked Radit what kind of person he was. Finally, when her friends came, I went downstairs. It didn’t take long for me to join them. Anisa called me upstairs. What are you doing with my friend? No, I’m just looking. “My friend said you were scary,” he said.

“Because I just sat there looking at it and then I just said drink it please. I said it was eaten and no one ate it. So what do you want. Yes, I just look at their eyes, right? “No one wants to see it anymore,” concluded Radit. (Z-3)
