In the street, in front of passers-by, lawyer Suzi Abu Hamdan was attacked by her client’s husband, in front of the Jaafari court, in the southern suburbs of the capital, Beirut.

Video clips posted on social media showed the lawyer being attacked on the side of the road, as someone tried to take away a file in her possession.

The Council of the Bar Association published a press release confirming that the president of the Beirut Bar Association, Fadi Masri, acted “immediately”, by “instructing the commissioner of the Palace of Justice, Maya Zaghrini, to follow the matter to the competent judicial and security authorities. »

The Lebanese authorities also denounced the incident, demanding that the perpetrators of the attack be punished, especially since “the crime committed once morest a lawyer in the exercise of his profession is equal to the crime committed once morest a judge, according to what article 76 of the decree told me. the law regulating the legal profession.

Later on Thursday, social media users posted a video clip of a person identifying themselves as Mahdi al-Moussawi, acknowledging his attack and apologizing to the lawyer and the president of the bar.

Al-Moussawi justified his behavior by the “psychological and social pressures” he is currently experiencing in Lebanon, which led to his anger and attack on Abu Hamdan.
