Poland: Using a metal detector, a researcher discovered a cross several hundred years old in Poland. The cross, believed to have been used in the mid-17th century, is currently in eastern Poland. After the schism of the Russian Church in the 17th century, the type of cross used by Orthodox believers was revived.

Archaeologists explain that this cross was included as an illegal symbol by later kings during their reign. The cross, made of copper, was discovered during an inspection regarding 100 miles from Warsaw. What was found was the same type of cross described in the Bible as the one on which Christ was crucified. This cross is approximately one centimeter wide.

The inscriptions on the back of the cross relate to Old Believer rituals in Russia. The liturgical reform of the 1650s caused a split within the Russian Orthodox Church. When the followers of the old faith moved away from power, the symbols they used, including the cross, were banned.
