Women in the media: Back to basics –

At the initiative of the National Coalition of Feminist Organizations for Generation Equality in Gabon (CNOFGEG), a capacity building workshop was organized for around fifty information and communication professionals belonging to various public and private media. A workshop intended to remind us of the responsibilities incumbent on everyone, in terms of collecting, processing and disseminating information within the ethical and professional rules, capable of ensuring peace and social cohesion.

Organized, according to CNOFGEG, with the assistance of the Ministry of Communication and Media and the partnership of UNESCO, UNICEF and UNOCA offices in Gabon, this workshop aims to remind, in order to optimize them “the techniques and methods of producing material supports for information, education and communication of non-hateful messages, in a sensitive context, in particular that of the transition and the holding of inclusive national dialogue, in the followingmath of the rejected elections on September 30, 2023 by a legitimate coup d’état »underlined at the opening of the work, the Vice-President of CNOFGEG, Sophie Dibadi.

The panels, led by people who are authorities on the various subjects covered, gave rise to enriching exchanges and the sharing of good practices between the participants. Panels which revolved around four (4) main themes: justice and rights of women journalists; need to respect journalistic ethics in the processing of information during sensitive periods; the eradication of hate speech in the media; peace and security: how women in the media must prevent conflicts by disseminating non-hateful messages.

In support of the lessons and experiences conveyed, the CNOFGEG intends to bring together a platform of women journalists from public and private media around the dissemination of the values ​​of love, humility, peace, tolerance and resilience, the basis of Gabonese society.

She would also like to rally the said platform to the deep reflection that it has opened since its creation 2 years ago, around themes aimed at improving the quality of life of women, namely: fighting once morest violence based on on gender; encourage justice and economic law; ensure bodily autonomy and the right to sexual reproductive health; supporting women’s action for climate justice; popularize technologies and innovation for gender equality and promote female leadership.
