The Council of State rejected the request presented by the representatives of the Islamic Centers for the appointment of an ad acta commissioner to force the Municipality of Monfalcone to identify prayer sites. The decision was commented thus by the mayor Anna Maria Cisint, who ended up under guard due to the threats received on social media relating to the closure for security reasons of two Islamic prayer centers in the city: “It is yet another pronouncement from the jurisdictional body which confirms the correctness of the organisation’s conduct. The municipal administration had intervened with two ordinances once morest two structures operating irregularly in premises which, for urban planning, safety and public safety reasons, might not be used as places of worship”.
“Moreover – highlights the mayor – this continued even in violation of two pronouncements of the Council of State which had confirmed that when prayer becomes a collective exercise it must be practiced in compliance with the law and therefore making the provisions of the Municipality valid, which are been systematically violated during this period. The managers of the two centers had therefore asked for the appointment of a commissioner to impose on the public administration temporary alternative prayer sites to those indicated, following careful reconnaissance, by the municipal offices, which has now also been rejected by the Council of State” .
Cisint concludes his speech as follows: “This new decision confirms my belief that in a secular state the Municipality does not take care of the needs and locations of religious denominations. It is not the mayor’s job to satisfy, with the money of all citizens, the private claims of a component that is pursuing a clear process of Islamization, not respecting the legality, laws and principles of our system”.
