Itaipu invested more than US.4 million in works and social actions in Alto Paraná

Asunción, IP Agency.- Itaipu Binacional carried out the execution of social actions, projects and large-scale works in Alto Paraná. In just over two years, it allocated a total of $39,478,005 to support health, sanitation and the local road network in the region, in addition to the electrical system, education, rural development and social management.

As part of its Strategic Axis “Energy for development”, it has among its priorities the health and well-being of the more than 7 million Paraguayans, giving special emphasis to the areas of influence of the dam, such as the department of Alto Paraná.

Likewise, following another of its strategic objectives, which is transparency, following two years of government management, it made available to the population consolidated reports of the investments it carries out within the framework of its commitment to social responsibility, details the bulletin sent from the Itaipu.

Hospitals, USF and pandemic support

The Entity took into account the needs of the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare (Mspybs) for the improvement of health care in Alto Paraná, which includes the revitalization of reference hospitals and construction of 23 new Family Health Units (USF), and support during the health emergency due to the covid-19 pandemic, allocating of the 39,478,005 dollars (more than 252,659 million guaraníes) a budget of 84,964 million guaraníes for these health works.

Regarding assistance in the face of the pandemic, the Paraguayan side of the Binacional, unlike Brazil, which concentrates its resources in the area of ​​influence of the hydroelectric plant, accompanied the decisions of the Government of our country so that said resources are channeled to through the Public Health portfolio.

As the institution that leads and coordinates actions aimed at mitigating the effects of covid-19, the Ministry of Health is in charge of distributing equipment and supplies to contingency hospitals and care centers in different locations, giving priority to those located in the departmental capitals.

The efforts carried out by Itaipu through the Tesãi Foundation are also carried out in coordination with Public Health to improve the quality of life of the population.

For the road strengthening of Alto Paraná, the Binacional arranged an investment of 128,887 million guaraníes, which allowed the implementation of improvements to avenues and streets in urban areas of the main districts of Alto Paraná, as well as the construction of the Multiviaduct at km 7 of Ciudad del Este, in full execution.

Other works

In addition to the projects already mentioned, Itaipu invested 14,079 million guaraníes in civil works. Likewise, it promoted other initiatives to strengthen the electrical system worth 328.7 million guaraníes, in order to improve the service to users of the tenth department. For the development of the rural sector, the investment was more than 6,738 million guaraníes and for the educational area, 46 million guaraníes. In social actions undertaken, with sustainability criteria, a budget of 4,565 million guaraníes was allocated.

The provision of drinking water systems and their improvement to provide the vital liquid to residents of various districts constitutes another priority action of the Entity, for which it allocated an amount of 13,048 million guaraníes.

The Binacional is committed to ensuring the provision of electrical energy in the midst of a health emergency, considering that the hydroelectric plant serves more than 85% of the country’s electricity demand. Likewise, it will continue to support the Government’s actions aimed at the socioeconomic development of the tenth department.
