Social network X – formerly Twitter – has officially confirmed its plans to launch a video application for smart TVs. Linda Yaccarino, CEO of X, presented several features of the “X TV App”. Many of these features are already standard on platforms such as YouTube. This should also provide benefits when it comes to sports. Features featured include an algorithmic feed of content determined by individual user behavior, as well as cross-platform viewing and advanced video search. Yaccarino also promised that the app would be available on “most” smart TVs.

“X changed from small screen to big screen [sic] everything,” Yaccarino wrote. “We will soon bring engaging real-time content to your smart TVs with the X TV app.” The developers are still building everything, but X wanted to give a preview.

More information

The X TV app will host media from individual creators, as well as a variety of original programming, including sports topics. Of particular note here is the deal with Big3, the three-on-three basketball league founded by American rapper Ice Cube. You have agreed to stream live games and other content on X. In addition, WWE already produces a short professional wrestling show called WWE Speed on X.

Despite the challenges of finding new sources of growth and repairing the reputational damage caused by the chaos of the past 18 months, X remains an important channel for the sports industry. With an extremely dedicated and passionate fan base when it comes to sports, the X TV app can undoubtedly be a significant meeting point for sports fans on the platform.
