They endorse reform to create a Pension Fund with inactive Afores

MEXICO CITY.- The Chamber of Deputies generally approved the reform for the creation of the Pension Fund for Welfare from money in dormant accounts outside.

With 252 votes in favor, 212 once morest and 4 abstentions, the president’s initiative Andrés Manuel López Obrador was approved by a simple majority of Morena and his allies.

It is estimated that with the reform around 40 billion pesos of unclaimed accounts by workers over 70 years of age will be absorbed by the new Pension Fund for Wellbeing.

When the reform is approved in general and in particular it will go to the Senate of the Republic. If Morena’s majority prevails once more, it would be approved before the end of the regular session on April 30.

What is the Welfare Pension Fund?

The Welfare Pension Fund will be a pension supplement for workers who meet three requirements:

• Be 65 years old
• Quote with the IMSS Law from 1997 to Issste Law
• That your pension (from the IMSS or Issste) is equal to or less than the daily salary with which you are registered in the IMSS

According to the initiative, the complement provided by the Pension Fund will be conditional on the availability of resources within it and will follow the guidelines established by the Secretariat of Finance and Public Credit.

The resources for the fund will be obtained from sources such as the profits of the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) or the Maya Trends, although projections indicate that they will not generate profits or profits for several years.

The most controversial of the Fund’s financing methods will be to use the savings in the Afores that have not been claimed by workers aged 70 or over, that is, inactive accounts of pensioners.

In 2018, the Stabilization Funds had 368.5 billion pesos (mmp).
