Vamvakaris, Theodorakis, Konstantinidis (Giannidis), Mitropoulos, Xenakis, Xenos, Papaioannou, Sisilianos, Skalkotas, Tsitsanis, Hatzidakis invite the public to rediscover them through the action “I think it’s time to listen”, inspired by a short story by Menis Commander,

“The show belongs to the Greeks”. The Institute of Greek Musical Heritage, in collaboration with the Benaki Museum, is attempting the original museum intervention in the permanent exhibition at 3 Kriezotou Street, which is set up by the historical director of the museum, Angelos Delivorrias.

The exhibition focuses on artistic and intellectual creation in Greece between World War I and the dictatorship. Visitors from today have the opportunity not only to listen to musical samples from the work of each creator, to see rich archival and audio-visual material, but also to trace with the help of technology the networking that connected these musicians to each other and to other creators of this of the important generation.

At the same time, part of the work of Stavros Xarhakos, an emblematic personality of the modern musical culture, is presented. The museum installation hosted in the periodical exhibition area, on the ground floor of the Ghika Gallery, with the initiative of the IEMK, offers us the opportunity to encounter evidence from his life and work before they take the road to the creation of an archive.

The exhibition lasts until 21.07.2024.
