Małgorzata Wassermann broke with the party’s official position – she supported Miszalski. The small difference in votes indicates that her appeal might have resulted in the defeat of Gibała, on whom the entire PiS was betting. Now black clouds are gathering above her head.
When Łukasz Kmita lost in the first round of the elections for the mayor of Krakow, PiS chose the “everything but PO” strategy and gave support to Łukasz Gibala. On April 12, Beata Szydło officially sided with him.
Małgorzata Wassermann, however, acted once morest it. She posted on her social media in which she announced that she might not imagine voting for this candidate. The reason was that his tactics consisted solely of “questioning everything around him” and his close cooperation with Janusz Palikot. The MP stated that supporting a person who joined the Palikot Movement in 2012 and then became a member of its authorities would be inconsistent with her conscience and beliefs, because the head of the mentioned party “ostentatiously expressed contempt for the victims of the Smolensk disaster.”
According to the exit poll results, 7.1 percent PiS voters voted for Miszalski. This might have been the result of Wassermann’s appeal, which, with a lead of 51.04%. once morest 48.96 percent was very important.
As not only local, but also central party structures did not want Krakow to be governed by PO, the MP’s behavior caused a real storm. The fact of her defeat in such an important city was planned to be used in the European Parliament election campaign.
There are suggestions behind the scenes that Wassermann “sold” her own group to Miszalski for the sake of unspecified particular interests, and that, as a frequent visitor to Majchrowski’s office, she counted on his policy to be continued.
For now, it is not known whether and what consequences the MP will face due to her actions contrary to the PiS line. It is possible that she may be expelled from the parliamentary club.
