United States – Former US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should resign, calling him an “obstacle to the two-state solution.”
Speaking regarding the repercussions of the Palestinian faction movement’s attack on October 7 and the counterattack launched by the Prime Minister, Pelosi said, “Netanyahu is ultimately responsible.”
In an interview with RTÉ Six One News in Ireland, she stressed, “We recognize Israel’s right to protect itself, but we reject Netanyahu’s policy and practices.” It’s terrible. What might be worse than what he did in response to that (attack)?”
She added: “The head of his military intelligence has resigned, and he must resign. He is ultimately responsible.”
In response to a question regarding whether Netanyahu was an “obstacle” to peace, Pelosi said: “He has been like that for years… I don’t know if he is afraid of peace, unable to make peace, or does not want peace, but he was an obstacle to a solution.” The two states, and I stress the word, the solution.”
Pelosi also stressed, during the interview, that Israel is a “friend” and that it is “in our national security interest” to support the main ally of the United States.
She continued: “The biggest advocate for humanitarian aid to the Palestinians was (US President) Biden,” before criticizing the demonstrators who objected to Biden’s handling of the Middle East war.
