Montevideo.- Uruguay achieved a clear victory once morest Paraguay by 2-0 in Montevideo this Sunday and leads the South American U-20 together with Argentina, which beat Brazil by the same score, in a third round of the final hexagonal that also had the victory of Colombia once morest Peru 3-1. The Paraguayan dream of qualifying for the World Cup is diluted.
With two dates left in the tournament, which qualifies the top four for the 2015 New Zealand World Cup, Albicelestes and Charrúas lead with seven points, Colombia trails them with five points and Brazil is fourth with four.
Franco Acosta and Gastón Pereiro scored the goals for Uruguay, at 21 and 37 minutes, respectively.
In the first minutes, Guruceaga’s security was key to keeping a clean sheet in the goal of those led by Fabián Coito, but at 21 minutes everything would change thanks to a precise center from young Rodrigo Amaral, just 17 years old, who connected with a header. Acosta to open the scoring for Uruguay.
The goal gave the blue team the confidence to unleash their attack and hurt a Guaraní defense that until the first goal seemed insurmountable. With Uruguay in control, Amaral once once more showed his talent and with some feints he disconcerted the rival defense, passing the ball to Facundo Castro who took a cross that Pereiro headed into the back of the net.
With the tranquility of 2-0, Uruguay came out to play the complement somewhat dispersed and in the first minute the recently introduced Antonio Sanabria was alone in front of Guruceaga who took the danger out of his goal.
The Peñarol goalkeeper was important in the match, cutting off all the dangerous arrivals of Víctor Genes’ team with good saves.
The blow that definitively knocked out Paraguay’s aspirations came in the 64th minute when midfielder Ángel Benítez was sent off.
