The Yogyakarta City Health Department asks the public to recognize and be aware of the transmission of Singapore flu or what is known as hand, foot and mouth disease, especially in children under 10 years of age.

During January to March 13, in the city of Yogyakarta, there were 68 suspected Singapore flu cases.

Head of the Infectious Disease Control and Immunization Section of the Yogyakarta City Health Service, Endang Sri Rahayu, in his official statement, Tuesday (23/4), explained that this disease spreads very quickly so prevention needs to be done early.

“Singapore flu can spread through skin contact, air, breathing and fluids from blisters, as well as the sufferer’s feces. Transmission can also be transmitted through fluids or droplets from the nose or throat that come out when sneezing, saliva or spit that comes out when coughing,” he said. .

Even though it is said to have the potential to spread to children under 10 years of age, he added, it does not rule out transmission to those who are teenagers or even adults.

Symptoms of hand, foot and mouth disease, he continued, are usually fever for two to three days, a rash on the skin and lumps on the soles of the feet, hands and the mucosa (mucous membrane) of the mouth.

He added that Singapore flu sufferers usually experience a lack of appetite, sore throat and need soft food and are lethargic.

If any of the family members are affected, he continued, they can self-isolate, adopt a clean and healthy lifestyle, do not kiss children who are infected with this disease, do not use shared household equipment and those who are healthy are advised to wear masks.

“Immediately check with the local health center or see a doctor for immediate care and treatment, because there is no cure for this disease,” he concluded. (Z-1)
