Ministry of Justice investigates death of inmate at the Coronel Oviedo Regional Prison

Assumption, IP.- Following the death of the inmate Luciano Brítez Brandell, who was held in Pavilion “D” of the Coronel Oviedo Regional Penitentiary, the Ministry of Justice reported on the opening of an investigation process in order to clarify the circumstances in which that the event occurred.According to preliminary data, at approximately 6:30 p.m. this Friday, inmates Mario Santacruz and Narciso Ayesa entered cell 11 of Pavilion D and stabbed Luciano Brítez Brandell.

After the incident, the prison guards who were in the vicinity of the place intervened and the Prison Directorate ordered the transfer of the victim to the Regional Hospital of Coronel Oviedo, where his death was confirmed.

During the brawl, inmate Mario Santacruz, who was also treated at the Coronel Oviedo Hospital, was also injured in his leg.

Once the incident occurred, the Ministry of Justice immediately reported the event to the Aguapey Police Station, the Prosecutor’s Office on Duty and the Forensic Doctor, in order to clarify any responsibility.

The State portfolio is also made available to the intervening authorities and will provide the details of the event in order to clarify the circumstances in which the incident took place.
