“Snow tickets” continue to apply in Riga on Tuesday

“Snow tickets” continue to apply in Riga on Tuesday

On this day, drivers will be able to use city public transport – buses, trolleybuses and trams – free of charge.

According to the municipality, due to the decrease in air temperature, ice will form on the roads, the thickness of the snow cover may increase to ten centimeters, and visibility will also deteriorate, so difficult driving conditions may develop on the streets of the capital. All municipal services and available equipment will be used to maintain streets and sidewalks, however, to facilitate street cleaning and reduce possible traffic jams, residents are encouraged to use public transport as much as possible.

Considering that a large number of cars are already equipped with summer tires, the Riga Municipality urges residents to be especially careful, prefer to carry out work duties as remotely as possible, travel by public transport or plan the departure time and time route taking into account the time that may have to be spent on the road longer than usual.

On Tuesday, a car registration certificate or vehicle technical passport will be considered a document valid for travel on public transport. This document must be presented only during control; the driver of public transport does not need to present it.

Any adult can use “snow tickets” by taking the technical passport of the vehicle with them on the trip. It is not necessary to have a driver’s license with you.

These tickets are periodically introduced by the municipality to reduce traffic during or following heavy snowfall, thereby making the work of snow removal equipment easier.

As reported, snow and sometimes rain are expected in Riga until Tuesday morning. Clouds will decrease Tuesday evening. The northwest wind will change to southwest. The air temperature in the morning will be regarding zero degrees, in the followingnoon the temperature will not exceed +5 degrees.
