Ensuring Rights for People with Disabilities: Oversight by the Permanent Commission for Social Development

The Permanent Commission for Comprehensive Social Development will oversee compliance with the Organic Law for the Inclusion, Equality and Comprehensive Development of People with Disabilities, for which it will visit public and private companies throughout the national territory.

This was reported this Tuesday by the commission’s president, deputy Rodolfo Crespo (PSUV/Miranda), following the presentation of the legislative agenda to the subcommittee on social protection, assignment system and major assignments for the period 2024-2025.

He recalled that this law was sanctioned by the National Assembly (AN) on March 14, and its objective is to guarantee the recognition of the human dignity of these Venezuelans, as subjects with full rights.

Crespo suggested continuing the debate on the laws already passed by the National Executive, such as the Student Participation Law in the Basic Education Subsystem.

But also, he noted, with the Comprehensive Care for Persons with Autism Spectrum Disorder Act; the special act for employees with disabilities; and the organic law for the inclusion, equality and holistic development of people with disabilities, with the aim of making them known to citizens.

In his opinion, important advances in society have been achieved by having this type of device, which benefits the most needy; For this reason he asked for vigilance in their compliance.

The President of the Subcommittee on Social Protection, Missions and Major Mission System, representative Yuraima Quintero (PSUV/Nacional), reported on the proposals for the legislative agenda of this body for this year 2024.

He pointed out, among the proposed laws, the draft law on comprehensive care for the blind and visually impaired; the draft law on comprehensive care for people with developmental disabilities; and the bill on holistic care for people with motor disabilities.

Likewise, the reform of the law for the promotion and protection of the right to equality for people with HIV or AIDS and their family members (review of the current law and the law on prevention and care for people with sexually transmitted diseases).

Quintero also referred to the draft law on the professional practice of public health inspectors; to the bill on architects’ professional practice; to the draft law on the professional practice of tax science; and the bill on the professional practice of social workers.

The member of the Storting stated that the technical tables for professional practice and the Storting’s committee for the disabled will be reactivated.
