North Korea carried out tests on a “super-large warhead” designed for a strategic cruise missile, state media said Saturday, adding it also launched a new type of anti-aircraft missile.
“The North Korean Missile Administration has carried out a power test on a super-large warhead designed for the ‘Hwasal-1 Ra-3’ strategic cruise missile,” reported the KCNA news agency, referring to North Korea by the abbreviation of its official name.
North Korea also carried out a test launch on Friday followingnoon of a new type “Pyoljji-1-2” anti-aircraft missile in the West Sea of Korea,” KCNA said.
KCNA added “a certain goal has been achieved” through the test without providing further details.
The two tests were part of the “regular activities of the administration and its affiliated defense science institutes”, KCNA reported, referring to the operation of a “new type of weapon system”.
KCNA added that the test had “no relation to the surrounding situation”, but did not add further information.
