King Charles assigns new titles and honors to Kate, Camilla and William

Re Carlo III has decided to grant a series of new leading titles of honor to Queen Consort Camilla, to the heir to the throne William and above all to his wife, the Princess of Wales, Kate, struggling – like the 75-year-old sovereign himself – with cancer treatments following the double diagnosis announced in the United Kingdom in general shock in recent months. Buckingham Palace made this known, once morest the backdrop of the publication of a list of decorations and awards – which also includes other figures from the Royal Family and British civil society – traditionally released in view of the feast of St. George, patron saint of England.

The designations, according to several commentators, confirm the monarch’s desire to enhance the image of the members of the dynasty closest to him, at a time marked by the therapies he continues to undergo, like Kate, due to his current health conditions. In the palace statement, Charles thanks his “beloved daughter-in-law” for her service on behalf of the monarchy and appoints her Royal Companion of the Order of the Companions of Honour: an order established in 1917 by his great-grandfather, King George V, whose access it is usually reserved for personalities who have distinguished themselves in the arts, sciences, medicine or in service to the State; order of which until now no member of the royal family was a member.

Queen Camilla, for her part, has been designated Grand Master and First or Principal Dame Grand Cross of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, which awards civil and military honors and insignia and of which in the past, Prince Philip, consort of Elizabeth II and father of Charles, had been Grand Master. While Prince William was awarded the title – held by Charles himself until his accession to the throne on 8 September 2022 – of another prestigious order: the Most Honorable Order of the Bath. The Duchess of Gloucester, Elizabeth’s cousin, and still an active member of the House of Windsor carrying out royal representative duties, was finally awarded the title of Royal Lady Companion of the Order of the Garter, the oldest of the historic surviving orders of chivalry British, together with the current Chief of Staff of the RAF (the Royal Air Force) and Lord Kakkar, a renowned doctor and scientist.
