The United Arab Emirates has announced the severance of diplomatic relations with Israel. The UAE’s announcement to cut diplomatic ties with Israel comes following the Israeli attack on 7 aid workers in Gaza on April 2.
According to an Israeli media report, the Emirati Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the Israeli ambassador Amir Hayek over the phone and expressed his anger over the incident.
Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz discussed the matter with his Emirati counterpart Abdullah bin Zayed over the phone.
Later, the Director General of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs met with the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Israel, Mohammad Mahmoud Al-Khawaja.
Emirati ambassador Muhammad Al-Khawaja said in his statement in this regard that the death of aid workers is the darkest day.
The UAE is among the countries that signed the US-brokered Abraham Accords to normalize relations with Israel in September 2020.
It should be remembered that 7 aid workers of the foreign NGO World Central Kitchen (WCK) were killed as a result of an Israeli airstrike in central Gaza on April 2, following which the European Union demanded an investigation into the attack, while Australia , was condemned by other countries, including Spain.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that the killing of the workers was a mistake.
