General elections are starting tomorrow (Friday, April 19) in India. India’s general elections will be held in 7 phases. Polling for 102 Lok Sabha seats will be held in the first phase. These seats are located in 21 states and union territories.
Polling will begin at 7 am Indian Standard Time and will continue till 6 pm without any break. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party is facing serious difficulties in Tamil Nadu. In the 2019 elections, the BJP did not win any of the 39 seats in Tamil Nadu. Hope to get something this time.
Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari is contesting from Nagpur, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s stronghold. Bharatiya Janata Party, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and other extremist Hindu parties have flourished under the umbrella of RSS. Nitin Gadkari is a senior BJP leader and is also considered as a possible replacement for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar, the Bharatiya Janata Party is also facing unusual competition. The entire area including this city has a majority of Muslims.
Tamil Nadu is governed by a grand political coalition led by the Dravida Mantra Kazigam (DMK). Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Assam, Manipur, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh are governed by the BJP. The BJP is in government with allies in Maharashtra, Bihar, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim and Pondicherry. Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep Island and Occupied Jammu and Kashmir are governed by the Centre.
