BB.lv: This year the situation in hospitals “will be ok”

The politician said that in order for more money to flow into hospitals this year, it is necessary to move forward quite smoothly on the report proposed by the Ministry of Health on the first reforms of the hospital network, the approval of which will allow hospitals to receive an additional more than 25 million euros.

The Latvian Hospital Association opposed these plans, but Abu Meri believes that, in general, cooperation with partners in the Ministry of Health is good, although it is clear that the plans will never satisfy absolutely everyone. He wants the ministry’s proposed changes to be adopted by early June.

Abu Meri estimated that following receiving this additional 25 million euros, the situation in hospitals will not be ideal, but “everything will be ok,” since “everything will be cheaper this year,” additional funds have been budgeted at the beginning of the year, and more will be available .

The minister explained that promoting reforms is important so that “I do not receive reproaches in the government” for the fact that the provision of money was not accompanied by an increase in the efficiency of the health care system.

The politician recalled that by next year the Ministry of Health plans to prepare a new report, where reforms in the organization of hospital work will be developed in more detail.

At the same time, in two weeks the Ministry of Health will begin to promote a proposal to expand the list of reimbursed drugs, for which “15-20 million” euros will be allocated.

As reported, the Ministry of Health has prepared a substantive report on the reform of the hospital network, which provides for planned measures to improve inpatient medical care, including in the provision of emergency medical care. The requirements for the profiles of hospital activities and their levels have also been updated, cooperation networks of regional hospitals have been defined and the principles of their work have been defined, as well as the creation and management of methodological centers that will ensure systematic quality control of medical processes in the country.

As Sanita Janka, director of the health department of the Ministry of Health, previously told LETA, the plan is planned to be submitted to the government for consideration in April, so that its implementation can begin in May. She emphasized that it does not matter where health services are provided, it is important to have a team that will provide them.

“We can already say that we have [в больницах] There are not many patients, one doctor can do everything, but the doctor has his own competence, the nurse has hers. It is important that the patient has this service as a whole. We cannot allow that, say, in a large hospital a patient is served by a team, but in a village there is only a nurse or a doctor. This would be dishonest towards patients,” Yanka emphasized.
