The Constitutional Court (MK) will hold a hearing to read the decision on the dispute over the results of the 2024 Presidential and Vice Presidential Election (Pilpres), on Tuesday (22/4) tomorrow.

The reading of the decision was carried out following the Constitutional Court held a series of trials to hear the lawsuit, examine witnesses and experts and ask for information from four ministers.

Responding to this, the Director of Democracy and Electoral Empowerment Partnership (DEEP) Neni Nur Hayati emphasized that candidate pairs who win or lose must show an attitude of statesmanship.

“Whether they win or lose, all candidate pairs must be able to show an attitude of statesmanship,” stressed Neni to Media Indonesia, Monday (21/4).

Neni said that when the Constitutional Court had delivered its decision, winning or losing in the competition was inevitable.

“Of course those who win should not feel arrogant, this is the people’s mandate which must be carried out well and not be betrayed,” said Neni.

“Put the public interest first and put aside personal and group interests, which is not just a discourse but must be a real implementation,” he added.

Likewise for those who lose, Neni emphasizes that defeat is not the end of everything. The reason is, said Neni, elections are not just a matter of winning or losing.

Neni believes that elections are a shared responsibility to maintain democracy, so following the elections we must continue to play a role.

Indeed, continued Neni, in the 2024 election there were many irregularities that occurred, especially violations of ethics and principles of justice, which were very far from the essence of the election itself, including manipulation of the rules.

So, Neni said that the only hope to maintain dignity and save democracy is currently in the Constitutional Court.

“The key is how the Constitutional Court can be as fair as possible in making decisions and considering that election disputes will have a significant impact on the future of the nation and state,” stressed Neni. (Z-8)
