The initiative on the right to vote for sixteen-year-olds did not receive the support of the voters

This citizens’ initiative was aimed at legalizing the possibility for voters aged 16 and over to vote in municipal council elections.

Initiative group from 2023 November 6 until 2024 on March 6, had to collect 300,000 signatures of citizens of the Republic of Lithuania with the right to vote regarding the Law on Amendment of Article 34 of the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania.

The coordinators of the citizens’ initiative presented the filled and blank paper signature collection sheets to the CEC, declaring that they collected the signatures of 49 citizens of the Republic of Lithuania with the right to vote on the paper signature collection sheets.

After completing the procedure for accepting paper signatures, it was established that in 2024 March 6 4:15 p.m. according to data, in the electronic services portal administered by the CEC www.rinkejopuslapis.lt 604 voters signed this initiative electronically.

In such a case, when the required number of signatures of the citizens of the Republic of Lithuania is not collected within the set deadline, the project of the legislative initiative expressed by the citizens is not considered in the Seimas.
