The lawyers of the former Minister of Communications, Alejandro Sinibaldithey asked the High Risk Court D that the former official don’t face trial in the case called Construction and Corruption.
At the discretion of the former minister the case once morest him is mounted. “This accusation is a farce, It is a montage by Juan Francisco Sandoval and Iván Velásquez. It will be demonstrated at the end of the hearing that there is practically no evidence that it was done in bad faith and what they sought at all times was to cause a civil death and a political death,” Sinibaldi said.
“All the motivation that Iván Velásquez and Thelma Aldana had was political. Those who benefited politically from removing me in politics already all those who had the possibility of participating electorally”he added.
Sinibaldi’s lawyers said that there were anomalies in the investigation by the defunct Commission Against Impunity and the Public Ministry.
“We show that the CICIG lacked powers to issue reports of a technical or expert nature. The only way that the CICIG might participate in a criminal process as a subject was as an adhesive plaintiff, but not an adhesive plaintiff with omnivorous powers,” the lawyers noted.
“It is clearly stated in its creation agreement, adhesive plaintiff in accordance with this agreement and with the Criminal Procedure Code regarding its procedural powers”he added.
The MP accuses Sinibaldi of the crimes of illicit association, continuous passive bribery, electoral financing not registered continuously and money laundering or other assets on an ongoing basis.
During the MP’s accusation, it was detailed that Sinibaldi had benefited from his position to demand gifts to contractors that were already registered with the Ministry of Communicationssuch as cardboard companies.
It was also added that these companies They issued million-dollar invoices, but without carrying out the agreed work.
