As of 8pm on Sunday 21 April, there are 29 symbols deposited by the parties that intend to stand in the European elections on 8 and 9 June. Parties and electoral lists can register their name and symbol with the Ministry of the Interior at the Central Directorate for electoral services today until 8pm and tomorrow 22 April from 8am to 4pm. For candidate lists the deadline is May 1st. Among the registered marks, that of Brothers of Italy (with the name “Meloni” in plain sight and the confirmation of the tricolor flame), that of the M5S (with related controversies of exploitation due to the presence of the word “peace”). Those from Fi and the Democratic Party are still missing (the latter is grappling with the controversy over the inclusion of Schlein’s name in the symbol).

He’s the minister Roberto Calderoli the last to deposit, late on Sunday followingnoon, the symbol of the League for Salvini Premier. But the Minister for Regional Affairs and Autonomies does not comment on the candidacies and in particular that of the general Roberto Vannacci. “Today we are depositing the symbol,” he tells reporters, “we still have two weeks to apply.” The comparison with the 2019 European elections in which the League reached 30%? “We need to work to get as many votes as possible and then the votes will be counted.”
Cateno De Luca
The first symbol deposited at 8 in the morning was that of Cateno De Luca’s List “Freedom” (with 19 other symbols inside) brought to the Interior Ministry by the former M5S undersecretary now representative of “South calls North” Laura Castelli. «We aim to enter this institution, the European Parliament, to try to explain that there are rules that are too far from reality, from fishermen, farmers, traders, street vendors. A way must be found to do what even pro-Europeans say, that is, to strengthen our territories – Castelli told ANSA – to do this we need more autonomy for this country and for the territories”.
M5S
He arrived in the followingnoon Giuseppe Conte to deposit the symbol of the 5 Star Movement, which in addition to the word “Movement” and the 5 stars also includes 2050, the year for climate neutrality and the word Peace, in the symbol for the European elections, and for this it was accused by representatives of Action and Italy alive with “exploitation”. “They attacked us, but we are still here more determined than ever to put all our strength into finding a way out of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, to set up peace negotiations.” Also for Gaza Conte expresses words of understanding towards Israel and the reaction to the terrorist attacks of 7 October by Hamas, but once morest Netanyahu’s strategy of carnage in Gaza and soon in Rafah. For this reason, he explains, they put the word “peace” in the symbol “a word much abused by everyone, but which retains a strong meaning that should motivate all consciences”.
The other symbols
In 2019, for the previous European elections, the first day of symbol deposit closed at 32, and then ended the following day at 47. But then there were “only” 17 symbols on the ballot paper. Many movements that have presented or will present the label to the Interior Ministry have not collected the signatures for the filing of the lists. The deposit of the symbol is more of a copyright issue, to prevent someone else from appropriating the “coat of arms”. Among the curiosities of the symbols deposited on April 21st, there is no shortage of bizarre lists like that of Mirella Cecewhich at every election presents its “Holy Roman Catholic Empire” list and there are two lists that refer to pirates, the European Pirates Party and the Pirate Party.
